2020 Herb Garden Report

December 19, 2020 by gardener Leave a Comment

The planned refurbishment of the herb garden despite the ongoing outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic has been a success, the main objective achieved two new raised beds and the removal of two old beds. The removal of the old beds enabled room for one permanent picnic table. The area between the entrance and the fruit bushes has been levelled for a safe even walking area for the public, this area has been used for the refurbishment of three further picnic tables. On completion of the refurbishment the tables remain on the levelled area. This extra seating has been very popular with the public and many families use these facilities for picnic and craft activities.

Additional unplanned work

A small extension to the top corner of the herb garden has created an extra seating area. The seating (arbour) was donated by Travis Perkins, a small amount of restoration work is required and a level base to secure the seat still remains to be done.

This area will be planted with honeysuckle which will be trained to grow up and over the roof of the arbour. In addition large plant pots will be filled with fragrant plants to enhance the seating area.

Remaining work

  • Compost roof still needs to be replaced/ made larger.
  • Connect new water butts to increase water harvesting.
  • Replenish dead hedge around the herb garden.
