Liquorice Park – Early Spring Update

February 12, 2026 by Richard Bayles Leave a Comment

As we’ve not posted for a while we thought a brief update on the past, present and future was worthwhile.

Allotment – We have tidied the dead hedge and moved it back slightly to allow us to plant a live hedge (probably hawthorn) just in front of it. Hopefully all planting will be completed before the end of April.

Within the allotment two of three beds have so far been created and will be planted this spring. The shed guttering is to be mended and water collection to be set-up. It’s also intended to clear/thin some of the older / dead trees at the back of the allotment to allow new growth.

Tree Surgery – Following advice from a visiting arborist it was recommended, for safety reasons, that we fell one of the leaning trunks on the Goat Willow (situated just off the eastern steps). This has been done, as well as clearing a lot of the dead wood from the tree opposite and removing dead branches overhanging the path in this area.

It was also recommended we remove the ivy from some of the larger trees (right down to the base) and other trees where it’s reaching the tree canopies.

Weather! – As everyone is aware it has been extremely wet, and some area of the park are waterlogged, in particular the lower meadows, some paths and the orchard.

The paths are also suffering but fortunately we received an unexpected delivery of woodchip which, in what seemed record time, was used to re-cover some of the higher paths. Many thanks to Owen, Matt & Paul for their endeavours.

We are also looking at buying some gravel and creating some drainage/soakaways in some areas, to try to drain some of the regular boggy areas on and around the paths which are affected by either heavy or prolonged rain.

Events – Dates to look out for are;

  • End April AGM (probably either the 20th or 27th)
  • 25th May Wonderground which is part of the Lincoln Festival of Creativity.
  • 28th June, Provisional date for our Open day 🎶🧁🫖☀️.

 We will send out clarification on dates and times, as well as more details on all these events closer to the time.

Survey – If you’ve not already seen or completed the recent Liquorice Park survey then we would be most grateful if you could click the link below. It should only take 2 minutes of your time and will help us a great deal in ensuring we are on the right track, or not!
