From Thursday 20th to Friday 21st May Liquorice Park is playing host to a University of Lincoln students art project, entitled “Haeream”. Based on the work of five students, the project consists of physical installation artworks relating to mystical and magical themes which are blended in with the foliage in the park. The students will be displaying their work around the park between 11am and 8.30pm each day. Some of the exhibits are illuminated.
Works include:
- A series of goblin sculptures with inspiration from the Lincoln imp.
- Individual fairies around the park that will blend into their surroundings.
- Pieces focussing on the five elements in Wicca which are fire, air, water, earth and spirit.
- An immersive experience of an alter world of dancing lights and reflections.
- Hanging orbs echoing the theme of wonder and enchantment.
Please do come an explore the park and enjoy the works.

In the students’ own words…
Our project consists of physical installation artworks relating to mystical and magical themes. Our artworks will relate to the mystical theme while being able to integrate and compliment the space/site around them. We want to include fairies, Wicca and elements of witchcraft, goblins and mushrooms and reflective lights that can transform your reality into a new realm. We want to install wonderment and a feeling of enchantment as you find yourself amongst our work. The history of Lincoln can be traced back to the infamous Magna Carta (Great Charter), a Latin document explaining the English political liberties, signed by King John on June 15th, 1215. To take this history further we looked at other aspects of Lincoln such as the Lincoln imp that can be seen in various points throughout the town. The Lincoln imp is a grotesque that is featured in the cathedral and according to our research was from Satan to Lincoln cathedral, but was turned to stone by an angel. To join these two important factors of Lincoln, we came up with a Latin name that means enchantment….Haeream….The importance of this word upon our work is immense as it embodies our ideas and hopes for the project. It gives the magical perspective on ordinary things, for who could be more enchanted by the world than us artists? We will use this word to inspire the artwork we produce and hope it lives within our project as we breathe life into the myths and folklores that surround this historic town. Haeream (pronounced Ha-ream) is the name of our project; full of fairy magic, zodiac power, mysterious imps, glowing vegetation and mystical lights, and we will infuse it’s power of enchantment into our work and we hope into the lives of those who view it.
