Liquorice Park is home to lots of different bird species. To keep track of them all, and ensure that the park provides the right habitats for them to feed and nest, we are asking visitors and volunteers for help by reporting the birds they see in the park using an online bird sighting reporting system. During June and July 2021 we are encouraging everyone who is comfortable identifying birds, to report bird sightings in the park via Bird-Survey for Liquorice Park (link opens in new tab).
Bird-Survey Online Reporting System
To do the survey, Liquorice Park has been added as a neighbourhood on an existing system (Bird-Survey) hosted on the Long Leys website. To report a bird sighting in Liquorice Park, Bird-Survey requires simply entering a name and email address, together with the neighbourhood (Liquorice Park) and habitat (see below map for Liquorice Park habitat areas). Select the bird seen, whether it was a sighting or a report of nesting and then the date it was seen. Then press submit. Users also have the option to register as a regular user of the system, allowing them to login and review previous bird sightings they have reported. Seven habitat areas have been identified on the map below. These should be used as a broad area rather than a precise location; the photos below the map also give a visual guide to the habitat areas. If you are not in one of these locations, or simply don’t know, then simply choose “other – Liquorice Park” as the habitat.
