The Arrival of Spring 2021

May 25, 2021 by gardener 2 Comments

April saw a mix of very hot days and very cold nights followed by rain in May, lots of it! Our water butts are full thanks to our new water conservation system. Spring has been slow to start but it’s definitely arrived now.

The cow parsley, comfrey and borage are flowering and glorious. The herbaceous community garden is thriving and showing promise of blooms to come and the renovated garden at the top of the west side steps is starting to fill out. The meadows have enjoyed the rain and look verdant. Lots of wildflowers to come…… it’s all happening and a walk around the park at the moment is recommended.

In the herb garden the seeds sown are still not showing but we remain optimistic. The Woad (Isatis tinctoria) planted last year is definitely the star of the moment. A hardy biennial member of the cabbage family the leaves are used as a blue dye.

If you have any photos of the park taken in spring you feel worth sharing please send them to us with a brief description of when and where it’s taken. We would love to see them.

      Hi Jan,

      There are entrances on:
      * Carline Road, where there is two hour free parking, just by the junction with Belle Vue Terrace
      * Yarborough Road just opposite St Faith and St Martin Junior school by the traffic light crossing
      * Alexandra Terrace, at the north westerly end

See Park Map for more details on entrances.
      Hope you enjoy your visit.
